Preparation of a standard solution & homogeneous solution

Standard solutions are usually prepared in a volumetric flask whose volume is accurately known. The thin line etched around the neck indicates the volume it holds at a certain temperature. Weigh out the required quantity of the substance on a watch glass and transfer it as completely as possible into the volumetric flask using a funnel. The last traces of the substance are transferred by using a jet of water from the wash bottle. Fill half of the flask with distilled water stopper the flask and dissolve the substance by shaking well. Add more distilled water just below the mark. The last few drops of the solvent are added from a pipette or a dropper until the meniscus touches a homogeneous solution. The proper method for reading the meniscus.
